Bach's six suites for solo cello are among the most frequently performed and recognized solo works on this instrument. They were presumably created between 1717 and 1723, when Bach was chapel master at Köthen. These suites were transcribed for various instruments such as violin, viola, double bass, viola da gamba, mandolin, classical guitar, etc.
