The six Bach suites for solo cello are from the solo compositions most often played and recognized for the instrument. It is supposed to have been composed between 1717 and 1723 when Bach served as chapel master at Köthen. These suites have been transcribed for numerous instruments, such as violin, viola, double bass, viola da gamba, mandolin, piano, classical guitar, among others.
