The cavaquinho APC Luthier is an exquisite instrument rich in sound, construction and tradition.
The cavaquinho is the king of traditional Portuguese instruments. Used for centuries in popular music events from north to south of the country, it found a home in other parts as far away as Cape Verde or Brazil, and even on the other side of the planet, where it gave rise to the ukulele.
APC decided to honor this long and diverse history with this luxury cavaquinho, owner of a rich and very present sound that cuts its way through the sounds of other traditional instruments of Portuguese folklore.
This Luthier model has been manufactured by the experienced hands of APC craftsman, using noble materials for added longevity, beauty and sound. Discreet in appearance, the look of the cavaquinho APC Luthier stands out for its contrasting tops. Part of the soundboard is solid fir, lighter in tone, and the other part is blackwood, which are also made of the sides and the bottom, in a beautiful and very effective contrast.
The binding is lighter, emphasizing the curves of the body, and a lighter line separates the two halves of the bottom, in a detail of great aesthetic value. The finish is open pore, allowing the wood to breathe protecting it from attacks by external agents.
The fretboard is shallow with the cavaquinho top, and the 12 frets have been carefully placed so that intonation is maintained anywhere they are touching, reducing collateral vibrations or differences in volume intensity.
The cavaquinho APC Luthier also comes with a case for better protection and storage.
The cavaquinho is an instrument widely used in traditional Portuguese music, as in Minho "rusgas", but has found space in other musical genres that benefit from its bright and very alive sound. It is used solo to accompany the voice, but is also played in conjunction with traditional instruments such as the viola, rabeca, reco-reco, among others. The cavaquinho's traditional tuning is D - B - G - G.
APC was founded in 1976 by António Pinto Coelho, who is descended from a centenary school of luthiers in Oporto. The company has about 45 artisans who build various types of traditional Portuguese and other origins. APC is the largest national company in this field, producing and selling instruments to over twenty countries.
The cavaquinho APC Luthier is a cavaquinho for anyone who wants a high quality instrument to keep tradition alive and pass it on to future generations.
